This report grew out of collaboration among three members of the COST Action CA21114, “CLIL Network for Languages in Education: Towards bi- and multilingual disciplinary literacies (CLILNetLE)”. It brings together strands of work developed across the Action, taking as its starting point Working Group 3’s analysis of official curricula and its investigation of how bi- and multilingual disciplinary literacy demands are expressed in curriculum documents (Here) .
By bringing this curricular work into dialogue with wider conceptual and empirical work across CLILNetLE, the report develops a provisional BMDL Metalanguage Map. The map aims to help learners, textbook writers, teachers and researchers understand core BMDL notions, their interconnections and their relevance to each group’s activities. To illustrate its potential use, the report applies the map to selected CLILNetLE pedagogical resources, examining how they make disciplinary-literacy demands and their relationships explicit. This map is offered here as a contribution to an ongoing conversation rather than a final framework. By presenting the reasoning behind its development alongside illustrative applications, the report invites stakeholders across subjects and educational contexts to examine, adapt and refine to suit their needs.
